Free Park4night Alternatives (2026)

Updated · By the Vanlifer team · 2 min read

Short answer: park4night is still the biggest spot database in Europe, and its basic version is free. Its paid park4night+ tier (€9.99 a year when we checked in October 2026) adds offline maps, advanced filters and no ads. Good free or mostly free alternatives are Vanlifer (free community map with a social layer), iOverlander (strong outside Europe), Campercontact (motorhome aires and campsites) and Searchforsites (UK and Ireland). Many vanlifers use two apps side by side.

Why people look for an alternative

  • Offline use. Offline maps and offline search are in the paid tiers of several apps.
  • Too many unsuitable spots. Popular spots get crowded or banned, and old reviews can mislead. Look for apps that show when someone last stayed.
  • Community. Most spot apps are directories. Many vanlifers also want to meet people on the road.

Vanlifer: what it does differently

  • Free, with no premium tier: map, filters, adding spots, reviews and messaging all cost nothing.
  • Spots plus people: a live map of vanlifers nearby (approximate location only), a community feed and meetups.
  • Public spot pages: every spot has its own page with photos, services and reviews, e.g. the community's favourite spots.
  • Honest limitation: Vanlifer is newer and has far fewer spots than park4night, so in many regions it complements park4night rather than replacing it. Every spot you add helps.

Which one should you use?

  • Europe, maximum coverage: park4night, plus Vanlifer for the community and free extras.
  • Motorhome aires and campsites: Campercontact.
  • UK & Ireland: Searchforsites, plus Brit Stops for pub and farm stops.
  • Americas, Africa, overlanding: iOverlander. See iOverlander alternatives.
  • Meeting other vanlifers: Vanlifer.

Not automatically. Spot apps are user-generated, and a listed spot only means someone stayed there. Rules change and some listed spots are tolerated rather than authorised. Read recent reviews and local signs, and see is van life legal.
